The ruins of the castle in Żary (Sorau) are unfortunately not available, so it cannot be visited. But the roof has already been renovated. The castle was large and in its heyday it must have made an impression. From 2020, the castle itself, without the salary part, is the property of the city again, so something may change. The castle was built in the mid-13th century by Albrecht Dewin. Then it was owned by the Von Pacek family, and eventually the Von Promnitz family bought it, and the palace part was added.
Decaying municipal good
Two stars but for the city's authorities and not for the castle, but it can't rebuild it or do anything meaningful with it. Somehow the castle in Kożuchów works is every year has some minor or major renovation works but it works! but here? These zara massacre. Strange that first private owners bought the castle for money, and after many years they want to give it back to the city for free! The day before the signing of the notarial deed, the coal service of the fire brigade comes to the fire of the tower dome at the castle. Unfortunately, the whole street was burnt down :(. Today, the owners say that the castle is not insured!
Overall, I wasn't inside but I recommend it
It is a pity that the castle is in such a bad condition. But the design itself looks really beautiful and stays crossed, maybe one day it will regain its former glow ...
