Only 24 years after the June 1915 battles, the fields of the village of Podsośnina and Łuków again fell down in soldierly blood. On September 16, 1939, the battle of Łuków took place, which was fought by 6 DP Brig. Bernard Monda GO "Bielsko". On September 14, the Polish Infantry Division occupied defense lines on the River Tanew: from Osuch through Podsninina, and Szostaki to Pisklak. On September 15, 1939, in Łukowa, west of the church, a Polish patrol fired at a German car. A few wounded German officers died immediately. Probably the general was among the dead. Germans suspected the civilian population of the attack. Arch residents were gathered in the church. Those who were not in the church were kept in the square. Next to the church, the Germans set up a heavy artillery, directing their guns towards the forests of the Solska Primeval Forest, Podsośniny and Osuch. Residents were exposed to Polish artillery shells. According to the soldier-participant of these fights, the Poles knew about hostages and did not shoot. On September 15, there were also fights between Szostaki and Pisklaki in the meadows called "Glinsko". In a place where German troops tried to cross the river Tanew, the Poles organized an ambush. The Germans were forced to retreat from Borsuczyna Hill. At the same time, another German unit attacked Podsnina from the direction of Łukowa. The eastern part of the village burnt (the western part was destroyed on September 14). As a result of the strong pressure of the Poles, the enemy withdrew to Łukowa. Attacks on Podsnina lasted all day. They were all repulsed despite the overwhelming enemy force. After another strong assault on Polish positions, the soldiers had to retreat from the Borsuczyna Hill for Tanew. German artillery was constantly firing the whole raw forest (forest north of the village of Szostaki, 400 m from Tanwia), nearby meadows and Aleksandrów. The Tanwia line was maintained until September 17 (Sunday morning). The Polish troops from Podsnina were also forced to withdraw, they went deep into the Solska Forest. The 114 soldiers killed in this battle were buried in the parish cemetery in Łukowa.
