Ida Haendel (born on December 15, 1928 in Chełm) - British violinist of Polish-Jewish descent. She was born in a traditional family of Polish Jews [1]. She was the so-called "wonderful child". In the third year of life, she played violin melodies heard [2]. At the age of 4, she began studying with Mieczysław Michałowicz at the Warsaw Conservatory. Then she continued her studies with Carl Flesch (Berlin, London) and George Enescu (Paris). In 1935 she was the youngest participant in the 1st Violin Competition Henryk Wieniawski in Warsaw (she took seventh place) [2]. During World War II, she performed many concerts for soldiers of Allied countries. In 1946–1947 she made her concert debut in the United States. In 1940 she adopted British citizenship. Until 1952 she lived in London, then she moved to Montreal, where she lived until 1989.
