Cmentarz Żydowski

The cemetery is located in the eastern part of the city at Łąkowa street. On a naturally shaped hill, among old lime trees and oaks, we find a relic of a small Jewish necropolis. Although its architecture did not survive to the current times, the former cemetery did not lose its character. From a few found tombstones and matzevot, a simple lapidarium was arranged, which perfectly corresponds to the preserved old forest. The place seems to be respected and cared for by the local authorities and the Drawska community. The Jewish cemetery is clearly marked, also an information board about the Jews of Drawsk. A fragment of the pavement directly adjacent to a low fence surrounding a small area of ​​illegible burials seems to be taken out of the old chronicles because of some old elements. Certainly, you can count on them a charming series of beautiful lime on the section adjacent to the fence, as well as a few stairs of the paved sidewalk. Although the terrain and the layout of contours on the map clearly display a small hill with a cemetery, the impression may be made of the artificial shape of its central part. It seems as if on 2/3 of the surface an additional layer of earth was applied, concealing possible earlier burials. It is probable, because the area of ​​the cemetery is really small in relation to the number of the Jewish community in former Dramburg. In addition, Judaism, assuming the inviolability of such places, allows the creation of new burials in embankments created on the original, but limited and filled surface.
