A nicely maintained necropolis, from the cemetery area a beautiful view of the area can be reached by car.

N 49.6662 E 21.1526. Good access by car, parking. It is a representative and at the same time the largest necropolis of District III (Gorlicki) war cemeteries of Western Galicia. Cemetery well-kept, which is due to the authorities and society of Gorlice.

It is built on a rectangular plan and surrounded by a stone wall made of sandstone. It has an area of 9216 m² and dimensions of about 130 x 75 m. A three-part gate with three arcades leads to the cemetery. In the center a large monumental cross designed by Gustaw Ludwig. Officer's graves with monuments of a similar type are arranged in three rows. Soldiers' tombstones have a similar shape, but smaller sizes. Another type of tombstones are concrete steles placed on a stone pedestal with a cast iron inscription plaque. Other graves are marked with low concrete steles with a rectangular cast iron plaque. 913 soldiers were buried in the cemetery in 140 single graves and 161 mass graves: 425 Austro-Hungarian soldiers, 201 German soldiers, 287 Russian soldiers killed in May 1915. Originally, 140 German soldiers were buried here, but during the liquidation of War Cemetery No. 89 related to the construction of a housing estate, 61 more bodies were transferred here. The cemetery also served as a resting place for soldiers during World War II. The total number of burials in this cemetery is 1441.

It was here near Gorlice in the first days of May 1915 that the Austrian and German armies made one of the most important breakthroughs of the Eastern Front, in this battle in a short time, Russian troops lost nearly 160 thousand. soldiers in the commanding staff, which were no longer able to rebuild. It was in this battle that later general Tadeusz Rozwadowski used a mobile firewall that amazed the German commanders with its effectiveness.

Here, among old trees and stone tombstones, we wonder about the complexities of fate and the passing of time.
