Built in May 1999 by the Transylvania Szeklers belonging to the World Union of Hungarians. John Paul II crossed it on June 16, 1999, during the canonization of Saint Kinga in Stary Sącz. This gate is a sign of friendship between Poland and Hungary. Presents inscriptions in Polish and Hungarian and woodcuts; Saint Kinga, Saint Jadwiga, coat of arms of Poland and Hungary, coat of arms of John Paul II, sun, moon, stars and numerous decorations. The gate is covered with a wooden shingle, under which there is a loft. Legend has it that: "Whoever crosses the Shepherd's Gate will not miss this happiness."
