THE TOWER OF THE ŻAR GATE, SO-CALLED CITY CONCEALS BASST LUBSKO defensive architecture 15th century The Żarska Gate Tower is a valuable example of city fortifications, being the only remnant of the medieval fortifications of Lubsko. History Stone and brick town fortifications began to be erected at the beginning of the 20th century. 14th century, in the place of the older, wood and earth ones. The perimeter of the walls, surrounded by a moat and reinforced with 16 towers, was pierced with two gates - Gubińska and Żarska. At the end of the 15th century, a tower was erected at the Żarska Gate. From the 17th century, the fortifications lost their importance and gradually fell into ruin. In 1838, the demolition of the walls began. The gates were closed in 1842, leaving only the tower of the Żarska Gate. In the 1920s, a tenement house was added to the preserved tower and its renovation was carried out, replacing the wooden ceilings with reinforced concrete and replacing the roofing with a metal one. Description The tower is located on the south-west edge of the Old Town, at ul. M. Kopernika 19, approx. 20 m south of the Lubsza River. Directly from the east and south it is adjacent to a residential building (no. 21). A building made of brick, set on a circular plan, with a cylindrical, seven-storey body, covered with a seven-sided tented roof. Combined with a two-story building with a wide passage on the ground floor, connecting it with the neighboring tenement house. The interior on each floor is single-space, covered with reinforced concrete ceilings. Brick facades pierced with six regularly spaced slotted arrowslits on each of the top five storeys. There are circular clock faces on the southern and northern sides of the top floor.

The City Pachołków Tower in Lubsko, also called the tower of the Żarska Gate or the Tower of Katowice is a remnant of the medieval fortifications surrounding the city. The walls were mentioned in documents as early as 1283. The tower is built at the end of the fourteenth century of brick in the Gothic style, founded on a circular plan, seven-storey. In 1834, a prison was moved to the tower from the town hall. Probably in this period the name Tower of Pachołków was created. A large residential building was added to the Gate in the interwar period. From the Tower, it is easy to walk along the promenade to Wolności Square, where two valuable buildings stand: the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Renaissance town hall, and in the opposite direction you can get to the hotel and restaurant "Duet" located on the river Lubsza. Place of sale: Hotel reception "Duet" ul. Reja 3, Bar "Eliasz" pl. Wolności 6
