A secret passage was discovered in Sławków The ruins of the castle in Sławków date back to the second half of the 13th century, it was erected by the bishop of Kraków Paweł from Przemanek. It seemed that everything was already known about these ruins, but one unexplored fragment remained, which now reveals its secrets to us. Archaeological work began in Sławków on October 11 and it soon became apparent that there was a second passage there. - The method is applied so as not to examine the given position in 100%. You have to leave for posterity, you always count on new research methods, not destructive discoveries. And so it was in the case of the castle, we left part of the area. In October, we began research due to the fact that the city wants to make some investment here and build stairs so that you can not only walk around the castle but also enter the interior of the residential and defensive tower - says Dr. Jacek Pierzak, archaeologist from the office of the voivodship conservator . - We are dealing here with a second secret entrance, leading from the interior of the residential and defensive tower. One such exit would be enough, and here we have the second and not only we were able to discover this hole in the defensive wall but we have the negative cut with medieval shovels. There is also a tunnel dug in the ground leading to the wall of the west tower. We have completed the research program in 100% - adds Dr. Pierzak. During the excavations, shackles were also found. To discover where the tunnel led, you need to excavate from the other side. However, this requires time and money. - Certainly the discovery of Dr. Jacek Pierzak after these archaeological research sheds new light on the story of the former ruins of the castle in Sławków, because until now it was not expected that there were two secret and escape routes. We will definitely want to carry out further studies of the studies - says Rafał Adamczyk, mayor of Sławków. - The works that were carried out here result from the fact that we would like to make the castle ruins available to tourists. I think that what happened here at the time of these archaeological research will contribute to the visibility of this place as a historical curiosity. As far as technically and financially possible we will want to conduct further research in this area. I hope that the voivodship conservator will help us in this - adds the mayor. Recent archaeological work has consumed PLN 15,000.
