I never give reviews but felt like I had to share my experience so that it did not happen to someone else. So first, the food was not bad nor were the prices; it wasn’t great but it was filling and, for a time, quiet. My wife and I sat and ate our toasty, drank coke and wine and kept very much to ourselves. However, when I went to pay I was berated in Portuguese, then English for not knowing that the restaurant didn’t take cards. In English I was told in a very angry tone that every restaurant in Portugal tells you what they take at the door and I should have known this. I did not know this. Feeling very bad I asked where the closest atm was and left my wife at the restaurant to get cash to pay. Five minutes later my bill was satisfied and I was again yelled at in Portuguese in a packed restaurant about how I should know that the store took cash. I have been traveling all over the world and have never been made to feel that unwanted. Leaving my wife(who remained at the restaurant) told me that it seemed like the entire time I was gone we were being very loudly talked about. As I left I tried to determine from his front door where it said what they accepted and still could not see what he was taking about. In any case, I am sure that if you go here with cash you will leave with a full belly but it was more than likely the worst dining traveling experience I have ever experienced in my over 20 years of travel.

Not tourist friendly! I try to avoid negative reviews but I am hoping this helps other people avoid the experience we had. Like most tourists, we did not spend years learning Portugese for a place we will only visit for a week (we did for Spanish because there are tons of Spanish speaking countries we can visit). We know a few basic words, but try to get by with politeness and friendliness. The guy who helped us (seemingly) didnt speak any English so we did our best and it seemed fine until we went to pay and found out they didnt take credit cards. We weren't upset, just asked if there was a nearby atm. The guy suddenly developed enough English to lecture us about looking to see if restaurants have credit card logos on their doors. Once my husband ran to the atm, the guy proceeded to rant in Portugese(I'm assuming about us based on his tone and volume, which before this had been mild but was now in rant mode) to the customers at the bar until my husband returned and he gave the same credit card lecture(this time in Portugese, maybe for the benefit of his audience). Very disappointed in the lack of hospitality and kindness, put a damper on an otherwise pleasant day in Peniche. Gave a few stars because the food was filling and relatively inexpensive.

Food is amazing for the cheap price asked, only thing I would change is the decoration. Will come back

Excelent place to grab a meal and some beer or wine. There's a great background soundtrack 😉! I highly recommend this place if you're on a budget, are in a hurry or just like a simple bit well made meal. The owner is very friendly and does take your order quickly and efficiently.
