Thoroughly off the beaten track but well signposted, the thermal waters in the remaining buildings of this ruin are said to be very healing and well worth the trip for your skin and muscles. Must be up for walk to get to this beautiful location.

Fonte Santa is a group of old buildings hidden in a small valley in the mountain range of Monchique. Most of the house are just ruins but two of them still have a roof and served once as a bath and can still be used as such. There are two stony bathtubs integrated into the floor and during my visit in Oct. 17 one was filled with water. There is also a valve on the outside wall where one can drain the tub. Apart from that there is not much to see but the walk from the road (look for the Fonte Santa sign just after the bridge) is nice and takes only 30-45 min. But be aware that you'll have to cross the river Ribeira de Monchique three times which can be difficult after rain or wet weather. In October when the weather was still hot there was hardly any water and crossing no problem.
