It's a beautiful monument, but it should explain the true story of the so call Discoveries. Especially the dark side of it.

Portuguese were great sailors in the world. They discovered many places, come and visit here and learn about the history of them.

Padrão dos Descobrimentos = meaning a Monument of the Discoveries >is surely one of the interesting Monumental Structure erected along the side of the Tagus River in Lisbon. Unfortunately, It was only a short glance to see this monument while passing thru the main road with our Tourist Bus. Not only the architectural design was fascinating but also the history behind all these famous navigators who made there great discoveries all over the world! Inside this building are auditorium, multimedia exhibiting the history of Lisbon, a stage with film projector and the uppermost part can be reached by elevator to see the wide view of the River and some other historical landmarks. I was amazed and wish to come again to enjoy seeing these work of art in my next visit. It's in my Bucket Lists of Travel :-)

A large monument which provides an excellent view of Lisbon and the old town. Very quick to visit thanks to the elevator and with a better view than the Torre de Belem.

The monument is very impressive and visible from very far away. It was built to celebrate O Navigador’s 500th birthday. He’s the man who started off the colonial reign of Portugal. Having said that it’s questionable at this time if a person like that needs to be celebrated. Regardless, the monument’s architecture is impressive.
