Pingo Doce Almancil

If you're not Portuguese AVOID!!! I have just walked out this shop, wanting to purchase two empanadas from the café counter. Initially she served a woman who was actually behind me in the queue because she heard me speaking English. The first sign!. I wanted one tuna and one meat empanada. The meat one was to the side, and wasn't even shaped like an empanada. It was deformed and the meat had spilled out and was charred. I tried to ask for another but she refused. I had no choice but to walk away. This was my first negative experience in Portugal because I'm a foreigner and it's upset me very deeply. I will never go to a Pingo Doce again. Especially not this one, where we also bought olives that were mouldy.

This really is an excellent Supermarket. Fantastic fresh fish and meat as well as an extraordinary cheese selection. Very light, clean and pleasant shopping experience. The restaurant/cafe is also very good and very reasonably priced. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Great selection of local produce. High quality and not too expensive. Big carpark available on the doorstep (with sun umbrellas what's very important and very handy). Just one downside the smell of the salted fish.
