Hotel Porta Nova

Nice place after the renovation. It's more like an adult only hotel which suites a lot of guests. The sight from the roof bar is marvelous. Though, they are very suspicious on their guests and you can only pay cash if you don't leave your visa in the reception. The service could be way better, but their facilities are great. The suites are nice. Be sure to order room fronting the sea. That said, the rooms on the rear side are quiet.

Basic but cheap in Tavira. Is good for quick breaks. Not quite deserving of its claimed 4 stars but nothing to complain about. Breakfast is ample buffet catering to Brits and Germans, although I suspect the French would be a little disappointed! The cocktail bar is pleasant, with good views over the town to the sea. Some evenings it has entertainment. The hotel is at the top of a small but steep hill so elderly residents may find some difficulty getting back up from the town. There is a good, cheap restaurant opposite the hotel entrance and a patisserie down the hill to the back, left. The outdoor pool is large but was losing some of its rendering. The hotel felt a little tired but was friendly and CHEAP! Recommended if you're not picky and keep in mind what a bargain you're getting!

Hotel Porta Nova is closed, but reopened under a new name after extensive renovations. It's called Maria Nova Lounge Hotel now.
