Beautiful easy hike. The path is all flat and goes along a lavada but it can get a little bit narrow at a few points with no railing. I have seen families with kids on this path. Multiple waterfalls and you will walk underneath one. There are two short tunnels to walk through and a another 1000m one to get to the end. However, I would recommend not to do the long one and just turn around at this point.
Edit: walk temporarily closed, walking on your own risk.
Had to turn around today.
Looks like a beautiful levada, especially on a sunny or less rainy day. There is a waterfall after ca 1km which you need to cross before reaching the first tunnel.
Today the waterfall had a lot of water and strong current.
Since you had to cross it by walking on a slippery concrete with a lot of water coming from the waterfall and without any stepping stones or similar, we decided its not safe enough and turned around.
Don’t take the third tunnel, you’ll end up wet crawling through the cave for 20 minutes one way. The view at the end is not so good either. Spare yourself an hour, go through the 2 tunnels and come back.
The path from the parking place to the start of the route is a bit of a pain to walk (if you walk on running shoes). Other reviews indicated that the view after the third tunnel wasnt worth it so we decided to walk till the entrance of the third tunnel. The view around there was quite nice. Would recommend bringing a decent flashlight even if you decide to walk till the third tunnel. The tunnels can be quite tight in some spots so be ware of hitting the side of the tunnel with your schoulder. You also need to duck at some points to avoid hitting your head against the roof of the tunnel.
Tricky trail with amazing waterfalls and challenging caves ;)
