ESPAÇO GATO

The space of this clinic is perfect for cats and it's also pleasant for their keepers. The waiting area feels like a hotel lobby (of a good, cozy hotel) rather than a waiting room. The treatment rooms have little cat houses and the cat patients are encouraged to walk about and explore the room, even visit these houses. There is no smell of disinfectant in the waiting area, there are no unpleasant noises, there are no other species present, all of which combines to help put the patients at ease. The medical equipment is modern, state-of-the-art as far as I can tell, having a background in human medicine. For the few lab tests they cannot do themselves, they have an arrangement with a lab in Porto. As a result, their lab capabilities are much closer to what is standard for humans than any other veterinarian practice I have seen (in three European countries). They also have ultrasound and x-ray imagery, at least the ultrasound equipment is quite modern. (I did not see the x-ray machine.) They have facilities for long-term care for quite a few cats that look reasonably comfortable at the same time as very functional. The medical staff are very diligent, attentive to detail, seem quite up-to-date with their field, and are very good at handling the patients - which is all the more important with cats who, contrary to at least adult humans, lack the capacity to understand and cooperate with their doctors. Everybody, medical and non-medical staff alike, is extremely friendly, sensitive and patient with the patients and their keepers. Personally, I went there with my cat after being dissatisfied with the diagnostic process at another veterinarian, the findings we got now from several tests paint a radically different picture, and I can say that going to Espaço Gato probably saved my four-pawed sister from potentially debilitating handicap or even loss of life. I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to anyone taking care of a cat.
