Delicious food and great service by friendly staff. One thing to note men have to wear long trousers when dining here.

Of all the restaurants at the Pestana Porto Santo Hotel, this was the winner by a country mile. Not only did it feel like dining in a Michelin star restaurant, but it was the only restaurant that gave table service for all courses. This alone certainly doesn't make it the best of the restaurants, but it made the evening feel special straight away. We were seated with a glass of sparkling wine, and given some warm bread and butter. It was also a real highlight to be given high quality wine glasses for the first and only time during our stay. This gave a noticeable improvement to the wines, which again added to the overall experience. This added to a lovely calm and relaxed atmosphere, whilst being very smart, comfortable and with well chosen decor at the same time. To start, my wife and I had the vegetarian option of a carrot, courgette and sun dried tomato salad, whilst her parents had a salad with a carpaccio of some sort. Both were delicious, and beautifully presented. The next course was a pea soup for the vegetarian option, and a scabbard fish, prawn and mussel dish for the standard choice. Again, both dishes were divine, and looked superb. This was followed by a vegetarian lasagne, which was absolutely delicious, and probably the best food we ate during our stay. I can't remember what the standard main was here, but I think it was some type of beef, and I know it was thoroughly enjoyed! Our desserts were the same for both menu choices, and were magnificent. We had an orange sorbet ice cream, paired with a gorgeous melting chocolate brownie (or similar), and a strawberry sauce. It makes me want one just thinking about it! Another real strength of this restaurant was the service. The staff were thoroughly professional, incredibly polite and dressed wonderfully. What was especially helpful was that for the first time, the waiters returned to offer us top ups on our wine and new drinks as necessary. This did not happen in the buffet or any of the other restaurants. Truly a fantastic evening and restaurant, Med sets a fine example that the other restaurants would do very well to strive towards!
