I went to Lusiadas hospital to schedule a physical exam. I was told that I had to first see a doctor who would write a prescription for the physical exam. Of course, the initial doctor visit would cost 80 Euros. Basically, it is a scam to maximize profit.

I emailed requesting a very important and timely set of tests on day one and the hospital have no reply, day 2 I emailed again to follow up and still nothing, no reply, I waited patiently, gave up and phoned to check they received my email. They checked, said they have indeed received my email and was advised that they would reply to me in 2-3 days. It’s now been a week and still no contact as promised to book a some very important tests. This is a private hospital and you pay for what should be a high level service but it has failed miserably. I’m here for 1 week only as explained in the email so they could have at least had enough staff to reply and advise of their next steps and timescales. If they cannot handle this basic task then I won’t be trusting them with my healthcare.. It’s not good patient management. Frustrating that I needed to call and chase for a reply and still, nada.

Perfect for American tourists to stop by for what ever needs medical they might have at very reasonable prices. I needed to do a couple blood tests so I decided to see what that would cost and just walked in on a Wednesday afternoon without appointment. They said no problem but without apt you go to emergency room department. Walked over there and got to see a doctor within 20 min and he ordered the tests I wanted. Emergency room visit: € 70. Blood draw and lab tests: €38 with results in 40 minutes. Since the prices and service were so good, I decided to get a calcium score CT scan. 10 more minutes wait then right in and get that done. Cost €150. Unbelievably great and fast healthcare at super low prices!! What’s not to like.
