Very nice place to do some biking, hiking or sightseeing and enjoy the surrounding Mondego river and nature.

The "Mondego Bookshelf" ("Livraria do Mondego" in Portuguese) is essentially various outcrops of sedimentary rock (sandstone) units from the Arenigian, an age of the Lower Ordovician epoch (between 478 and 472 million years ago). These outcrops, once horizontal when they were laid down at the bottom of an ancient sea, are now almost vertical, thrusted up by tectonic forces since. The river Mondego, which has it source in the Serra da Estrela massive, cuts these outcrops upstream of a nearby bridge.
