You place your card in the machine while it takes a photo of your registration number. You don't even require your pin code. 15s later we were driving along the motorway again.

MUST STOP. Or otherwise suffer Portuguese way of paying toll dearly later and is GOOD FOR A22 ONLY!!! For whole length to Cabo San Vincent it is 10 Euros !!!!! This is poorly lighted area at night which looks odd unconvincing and not very safe to stop. I missed it tired at 22 h and had to pay 20Euros prepaid card on CEPSA gas station that had to be activated by sending SMS(extra cost). And it still did not associate licence plate with it. Hopefully kind hotel staff had been able to reach highway agency to try to correct our misfortune. Genius who figured payment this way

Easy way to use the complicated toll system in Portugal. Just drive up, the machine reads your reg and you put a credit card against your reg. Everytime you use a toll road it bills your card. Valid for 1 month.

A bit like Checkpoint Charley when the Berlin Wall was there!
