OMG this hike was amazing. It was challenging, beautiful, humbling, and just overall cool. Pay attention as the markings are few but ot adds to the adventure of it. Best hiking trail.
Wow!! Magical !! It's rated as difficult but which is odd because it's quite easy. If you're quick you cld do it in 1hr 15min. There is a fair bit of clambering to do over rocks, trees etc. Boggy ground. Take care of it's been raining. Hiking boots not necessary. Good hiking / walking shoes are. Walking sticks not necessary
Misterios Negros trail was quite challenging and very interesting - first part through wetlands, then threading through dense underbrush & rough rocky trail, then through tall cyprus trees & finally road back to your starting point. Wear good shoes, hiking poles. Rain jacket because it will rain if you don't have it. Quite wet in spots, particularly in the last 1/3 of the trail as it is on new trailbed in the trees, relocated from the edge of the farmers field. Just work slowly from marker to marker and you will be fine.
It is a very beautiful route through a humid forest of the Azores, in which we go from wooded areas to small lakes or rocky areas with little vegetation.
The ground is usually muddy and slippery, in addition there are slightly complicated areas so it is not advisable to do it with children or people who are not agile
