Amazing atmosphere in a beautifullly decorated place with cosy rooms, sunset roof terrace, a deliciously smart menu and welcoming staff. Well worth a visit if you're in Madeira.

It’s a beautiful breakfast location with very delicious, fresh and organic dishes. The service was excellent and the atmosphere a dream!!! We literally sat under a mango tree.

We had a great time at Maktub, the best place to be in Madeira island!! It is located in the most special and beautiful village of all, Jardim do Mar, where you can walk down to the ocean through charming streets with no cars. Maktub has a special vibe, it feels like you’re in Bali! The garden is beautiful!! The view to the ocean in breathtaking! You can relax at the roof top just enjoying the view. We stayed in the couple’s room with shared bathroom. The room is super nice and clean, it feels great to open the window when you wake up and just see the green of the plants and trees while listening the birds! Everything at Maktub is extra clean, also the common places! The sheets and towels smell fresh and clean! You can walk with your surf boards from Maktub down to the ocean and surf both at Jardim do Mar or Ponta Pequena. It’s also a very short distance to drive by car to Paul do Mar and many other good surf spots. The climate and water temperature is also the best at this spot compared with the rest of the island. Even if there’s no waves you can simply enjoy the beach and the clean water! Another great plus of this place is the cooking skills of the owner, Fabiana! The place is perfect (the best in the village!) to have breakfast, lunch or dinner! The food is really tasty, healthy, fresh and all homemade! Fabiana creates all the dishes and all are unique! We even got to try a Nasi Goreng! She puts a lot of care and love in everything she does. Fabiana is super nice and she will always make sure that you will have everything you need to spend a great time. From Maktub everything is walking distance: parking, market, bar, restaurants and beach! The environment at this place is something that you can only understand if you go there! We had planned to stay two nights and we ended up staying the whole week of holiday there, we just did not want to leave. It is sure for us that next time in Madeira we will stay again at Maktub!

We stayed in a nearby accommodation for over a week and ended up in Maktub three times. The first two times were fantastic: The place has a chill vibe, the food is amazing and so tasty; the waitresses we met were friendly, characteristic and brilliant. The third time, we had a misunderstanding over a picture I took on my phone of the drinks board (these are not printed). Andreia, the owner disapproved of this, and whatever the intention may have been, her demeanour left us feel foolish - shame, as we were simply having a couple of drinks for my wife’s birthday. It is a wonderful restaurant though, the food is best in town and I’d definitely recommend a visit, you’ll have a fantastic dining experience! Rosario and the rest of the staff are all smiley and brilliant too.
