I was admitted to Hospital Garcia de Orta with second degrees burning after a cooking accident and went to Centro de Saude in Amora for the after treatment. For the first week I had daily appointments for changing bandages. The admission process on the first day was a bit different than the one I am used to in Germany or other countries but it was pretty straightforward. Where everywhere it is common in Portugal to take a number at the entrance, here it is the same. By accident we overheard the nurse calling my name so the first day we were waiting even though I was the first one to be called in. In the end the first day treatment happened right away after we asked at the front office again. The staff at front office was nice and very welcoming, unlike in Germany a lot of times. I don´t understand why people here complain about them. They are so busy, why call a phone line even, just go there and you will be taken care of! With little portuguese but spanish I even managed to be able to get nice answers that I could understand. The medical staff was incredibly well-educated, very nice and sensitive and they all knew exactly what to do and gave me possibly a better treatment than I would have gotten in Germany. I was attended by various medical staff members such as Catarina, Ana, Engracia, Sarah - to name a few- and many more. They were all exceptionally friendly and well mannered, very compassionate and careful, understanding that I was in a lot of pain in the first days. I even was practically forced to get a free Tetanus refresh shot and the triple one against measles, etc. In Germany you pay for vaccines. Here the state takes care of its people in a way that was very new to me but I welcomed it with open arms. The two weeks of treatment in total were very pleasant and made the healing process a lot easier than I thought. It was amazing, I am deeply moved by the way the medical staff was so empathic despite working for such little money. People who professionally take care of others should always earn more money in my opinion. Portugal should pay better salaries to medical staff. Without them we would be sick and alone. I wish I could write portuguese so my review does not get misunderstandings in translations but on the whole I think you will understand it. This is a wonderful place to go if necessary. If I should ever be getting sick or be involved in something bigger like my accident I would want to be able to be here, with the nice people who know how to take good care of a patient, physically as well as mentally. Thank you so, so much. And my skin thanks you, too.

Worst medical and administrative attendance of my entire life. Brazil have a much better health care system.
