The Blessed Sacrament has been exposed for adoration in the Shrine of Fatima since 1 January 1960. At the beginning the exhibition was done in the chapel of the "Nossa Senhora do Carmo" Hospital, the current "Nossa Senhora do Carmo" Retreat House (Madonna del Monte Carmelo). In 1964, Lausperene - a permanent exhibition of the Blessed Sacrament - was already being done at the Albergo dei Malati, today the "Nossa Senhora das Dores" retreat house (Our Lady of Sorrows). Later, in 1987, the Chapel of Adoration was inaugurated, at the end of the southern arm of the Colonnade, now dedicated to the Angel of Peace. Since 13 July 2008, perpetual adoration has been held in the new Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, which is located in the complex of the Basilica of the Holy Trinity. This chapel, inserted in the complex of the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, has 200 seats and is accessible throughout the day, entering from the area called "Galilee of the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul". The silver monstrance is the work of the sculptor Zulmiro de Carvalho and dates back to 1986.
