Casa Ermelinda Freitas - Vinhos

Head such a great time here with our tour guide Vanessa, who spoke great English and was so knowledgeable about the company and the Portugese wine culture. Would highly recommend a late Saturday afternoon tour was a perfect time with family and some souvenirs we'll enjoy for months to come.

We had the most amazing experience at Casa Ermelinda Winery several weeks ago. We had been at Wine Not wine bar the night previous and had tried the Ermelinda wines and really enjoyed them. The owner told us it was possible to visit the winery. As it was on the way to our next destination, we stopped in. Camilla was in the retail shop and explained that no tours were scheduled for that day, but she would see what she could do. She brought us up to a wonderful terrace with a gorgeous vista of the vineyard. She returned with wine and a tray of cheeses, meats and fruit. She explained that if we could wait for her for an hour, she could do a tour for us. We had a lovely light lunch, while enjoying the wine and the scenery. She returned and gave us a private tour which included a behind the scenes component (watching the grapes come in right from the vineyards). This was a very special day for us and will be a continued special memory when we think back on our trip to Portugal. Camilla didn't have to do any of this for us - we were strangers that just showed up. She is outstanding!!!!

Very disappointed in this winery. My siginificant other and I were vacationing in Portugal and decided to come here based on reviews on how good the wine was. We arrived on a slow Thursday in March with no one else there and was greeted by a young lady. We were interested in either a tour or a tasting. We were told that tours were to be booked two days in advance. We then asked about doing a short tasting with her, but to our surprise she said she couldn't do that either because she was the only one working that day and we would need to book in advance for a tasting, too. What winery expects people visiting to book in advance to taste the wine? It's quite simple: we pay, they pour wine in a glass, they describe the wine, and we taste. I have worked at a winery before and this experience was by far my worst. TL;DR: DON'T EXPECT TO TASTE ANY WINE WITHOUT 48 HOUR NOTICE.

What a fantastic tour of the Winery, thank you so much for your hospitality. In a time of austerity, Ermelinda had led her company to develop their wines and facilities to contend with some of the best. What an impressive story and such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Well done and my appreciation to all.
