Chelyabinsk. Church of the Trinity Life-Giving (old). Church. Lost. Thrones: Trinity of the Life-Giving, "Sign" of the Icon of the Mother of God Architectural Style: Classicism Year Built: Between 1796 and 1829. Year of loss: 1911 (dismantled, a new church was built in its place) Address: Russia, Chelyabinsk region, Chelyabinsk, st. Kirova, 60a (on the site of the modern Holy Trinity Church) Coordinates: 55.174274, 61.398896 *** Holy Trinity Church is the oldest existing in Chelyabinsk. It dates back to the 1760s. At this place in the Zarechye, three churches were replaced: the first is wooden, the second is small stone, and the third, existing now, is red-brick. The decision to build a stone two-story church in the name of the Life-Giving Trinity with the lower aisle of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos was made in 1795, about which a request was sent to Tobolsk on April 28. On June 14, 1795, the Archbishop of Tobolsk and Siberia Varlaam blessed the construction of a new church in Chelyabinsk. In 1796 the construction of the temple began, masters from Tobolsk were invited. However, the case, which was started soon and with enthusiasm, soon ran into problems and the main one was the lack of necessary funds. In 1798, the project was changed and it was decided to build a one-story church with the designated aisles. But this did not help the construction either - the merchant Terenty Dedyukhin pulled for a long time with payments, and later, as it turned out, turned out to be insolvent. Priest Vasily Zemlyanitsyn, in spite of all efforts to collect donations for the construction of the Holy Trinity Church, died in 1822–1823 without ever seeing the new church. The completion of the Holy Trinity Church is associated with the name of the Chelyabinsk merchant Maxim Sidorovich Akhmatov. During 1828 and 1829, with his expenses and zeal, he completed the construction of a stone church, which had been under construction for more than 30 years. The merchant Akhmatov spent more than 10,000 rubles to complete the construction, but in fact he rebuilt the entire temple, moreover, spent 3,500 rubles on the new iconostasis and the writing of all the icons. In addition, Akhmatov, together with the merchant Smolin, got a large bell weighing 80 pounds for the temple. The new church was located in the 3rd quarter of Ufa Street and occupied a plot of land “15 long, 20 fathoms across”, an area of 300 fathoms (1365.5 square meters). Thus, the church had a length of 22.75 meters, a width of 19.75 meters, a height with a bell tower of 19.9 meters. The building was plastered and painted yellow on the outside, and the roof, covered with iron, was green. The whole building was estimated at 15,000 rubles. In addition, there were buildings in the church fence: at the gate - two outbuildings, and also on the south and north sides of the building - two outbuildings. The fence with wings was estimated at 10,000 rubles. The church was typical; quite a few were built during the reign of classicism. On October 19, 1830, the chapel was consecrated in honor of the Sign of the Mother of God, which was produced by the rector of the Ufa Theological Seminary Archimandrite Theodotius. The church and the main throne in honor of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity were consecrated on June 4, 1832. In 1850, by decree of the Holy Synod, it was allowed to arrange a second chapel in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord. However, they laid it only on August 18, 1857, and the consecration took place in 1862. By the beginning of the 20th century, about five thousand people lived in the parish of the Holy Trinity Church, most of them in the city itself. The church turned out to be small and ideas about its expansion appeared. In 1909, it was decided to dismantle the existing church and build a new large red brick church, the third Holy Trinity Church, in its place. Based on the materials of N.A. Antipina and I.V. It’s good that the temple has been restored. One of the most beautiful in the city.
