If you are OK with exploring new and unknown colture it can be very surprise and nice place to visit
This is one of the oldest synagogues in Moscow. Open in 1906, yet before the revolution, it never closed ever since. It has four communities in one building that coexist peacefully. On Shabbat they have a meal up beneath the dome, but they appreciate it if you prepay the meal.
An annex of the original Choral Synagogue, the building was annexed as a military hospital in 1941 and then maintained as a medical institute. A series of negotiations initiated by a New York rabbi with the city of Moscow in 1987, began the process of its return to the Jewish community. It was rededicated in 1999 under the patronage of the city’s mayor and restored as an educational and cultural center.
The building is a typical orthodox shul with a balcony for the women but visitors of both genders can visit the main floor. The ceilings and walls have been beautifully restored. It is a beautiful sanctuary of Judaism despite the violent history that forced the majority of Russian Jews to flee persecution. Guided tours are available as indicated on this website.
The gift shop is tiny but full of wonderful items. If you can, please don’t forget to drop some rubles in the Tzedakah box.
A magnificent synagogue. Central location. It is nice to go to the Chabad House and meet with the members of the community
Quite spaceous this sinagogue is. Beauteful. There is a sort of a headquarters of a Coucasian jews, according to a door sign upstairs. Why it is not cAusasian but cOucasian, beats me)
