Volga GAZ-21 replaced the Pobeda car. The sculptor Lev Eremeev, who worked on ZiM (the first representative model of the Gorky Automobile Plant), was involved in the development of the new model. The new car was given the name "Pobeda-M21" - it was she who later became the "Volga". At the same time, the Englishman John Williams, who worked in the bodywork design bureau of GAZ, worked on the model - his version was called the M21 "Star". The Volga's appearance was based on the American styling, which at that time was dominated by aviation and rocket-space motives. However, by the time the serial production began, foreign colleagues had already gone far ahead.
