Uspenskiy Kafedral'nyy Sobor

Lovely little city we all thought as we did the walk around. Had celebrated its 1000 year foundation in 2010, and the parks and gardens are immaculate as they featured Prince Yaraslav slaying the pagan's bear with an axe, and taking the spot for his new city. So we wandered across pavers that seemed to be just laid down and not cemented in? Our guide said was a rush job to finish before the celebrations of 9 years ago- things dont move quick here I thought. Lovely looking Cathedral of the Asummption, looked brand new with a fresh coat of paint. Well, thats because it was built also in a bit of a hurry for the millennium , and not quite finished inside, but looks great from the outside. You could say it was a work still in progress, but would probably look great when the finally finish it and allow you a look inside of it. Worth a look, but mind them paving stones underfoot as you walk on them.

A large five-domed brick temple with a tent bell tower, built in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of eclecticism. It was built in 1891-1898 as a new cathedral. Side aisles of Nikolsky and Mary-Magdaleninsky. Services ceased in the 1920s. It was blown up in 1935, a square was built on the site of the cathedral. It was again built in 2005-2007 on the old foundation and according to the old drawings on the initiative of the Governor L.K. Polezhaev. In the basement, the remains of the foundations of the old temple are preserved and the side altar of Sylvester Omsky is arranged.
