The history of the museum is a mirror of the origin and development of the Irkutsk geological service, starting from the first full-time geologist V.А. Obrucheva. According to the stories of the oldest geologist Sergei Petrovich Konoplev, the first collections in 1920 were collected by the head of the mining district, V.V. Kovrigin, which he later redistributed to the first director of the East-Siberian Branch of the Irkutsk Geological Committee, F.F. Schwabu. These were wonderful collections of gold, coal, mica, all of which served as the beginning of the creation of a geological museum. On February 28, 1930, a woman, Anna Vasilievna Gosmer, was appointed the founder and custodian of a beautiful soul. In 1961 she retired, but did not stop communicating with the museum. A photo portrait is kept in the museum, its name is recorded in the book of memory “Geologists of Angara region”. 1930 is the date of the creation of the Irkutsk Geological Survey Museum. In 1941, during the Great Patriotic War, the museum was moved to another building. At the end of the war he returned to his place. The museum funds in 1930 consisted of 28 collections, in 1945, already 900 collections, and in 2010 the museum has 5900 collections of samples of ores and minerals. The museum is a center of propaganda of geological knowledge and a place where geologists can quickly and visually familiarize themselves with the features of the geological structure of our territory and get primary materials to prepare for field work, expand their knowledge of the regions and objects of their research. The museum has three sections: Section I - Regional geology - illuminating the geological structure of the regions (East Sayan, Siberian platform within the Irkutsk region, the Baikal region, the Baikal-Patom plateau); Section II - Minerals - where large deposits of the Irkutsk region are represented; Section III - Systematic Collections - samples of ores of minerals, minerals from areas adjacent to the Irkutsk region are displayed in the section windows. Many of these deposits were discovered and diluted by geologists of the East Siberian Geological Administration. This section is devoted to pioneering geologists, leading figures of the geological service of Eastern Siberia. The Museum “Mineral Resources of the Irkutsk Region” is a relay race from past and present to future generations of Irkutsk geologists. On the 100th anniversary (1988) of the Geological Survey of Eastern Siberia, an exhibition dedicated to V.A. Obruchev, where thanks to the support of his granddaughter, Natalia Vladimirovna Obrucheva, personal belongings and books of Vladimir Afanasyevich are displayed. Currently, with a decrease in the volume of geological work, the museum was transferred from the balance of a manufacturing enterprise in TFI in the Irkutsk region.

A very large number of interesting exhibits, a guide who will tell about everything interestingly. I am glad that you can get there only by appointment - the museum is never crowded.
