The Alley of Heroes was opened on August 13, 2019, although the first bust - of Marshal of the Soviet Union, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Vasilevsky - appeared earlier, in December 2017. In 2019, five bronze busts of Kostroma heroes appeared on the alley, which made a great contribution to the victory over fascist Germany during the Great Patriotic War: Major General Ivan Nekrasov, Colonel General Nikolai Novikov, Major General Alexander Skvortsov, Lieutenant General Dmitry Smirnov and Army General Mikhail Malinin. By the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, 6 more busts of Heroes of the Soviet Union and full knights of the Order of Glory will be installed here.
