Nicely renovated. Very little english. Maybe the app would help. Just a collection of stuff. No clear message or history for me. Negative parts (except if concerns others) skipped. Some exhibits seemed to make fun of the Russian state doctrine. Not the best in Moscow. But if you read Russian and have the time. Why not. 300 rub.

Professionally organised museum with focus on modern (1900-now) Soviet/Russian history. Unique collections of Russian-Japanese 1904-06 war, WWI, Soviet period 1920-1940. A full hall dedicated to official gifts presented to Stalin. A history of the building is presented appropriately as well.

I would say a must visit place for anyone who wants to know the history of Russia and it's contribution to our time.

We recommend not to leave any valuables in your bags as staff asks you to leave bags at the cloakroom. We had more than 10,000RUB (about more than 150USD) Stolen from the bag. Only the 1000 RUB and 500 RUB bills had gotten stolen. The 100 RUB and passports were not stolen. It was the only time our handbags were out of sight in the whole Moscow trip and we noticed it a few hours later. We actually send an email to the museum about this incident both in English and in Russian, but to this day, have gotten no reply what so ever.

Some English text available in each room to help with understanding (more so than many other museums in Moscow) but sadly there's not loads. Clearly the museum is updated a lot as there was even information on Putin's latest election, the World Cup 2018 and Syrian War. Unfortunately due to refurbishments going on until March, most history from 1906-1945 (ie the interesting stuff) isn't available at the moment.
