Tserkov' Preobrazheniya Gospodnya

This old wooden church is truly a work of art and amazing to see. The time and effort that went into erecting such a structure is unthinkable.

From Moscow by plane or night train to Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation. You can reach Pheasant Island in about an hour by boat from the one on the shore of Lake Onega. I went here to see the Preobrazhenskaya Church. The weather was cloudy all the way from Moscow, but it was sunny only while I was visiting Kizhi. I thought that Kiji Island, which had cleared up, was a heaven because it was quiet and green and the churches were standing there. The splendor of church architecture was beyond description, it was just overwhelming. It would be difficult to visit many times, but it was good because it was a place I wanted to see even once in my life.
