Even in the period of its ruin, this church looks solemn and majestic! How many centuries have passed, but time (or man?) Destroys everything!

The church does not look very much like itself, which was in the past and quietly falls apart on the outskirts of poor Belozersk. But this was a scientific sensation of the early 1980s when an article on an amazing find, or rather, about the established fact of the identity of one of Bazhenov's projects and a real building - a temple far from Moscow and in an authoritative serial collection "Monuments of Architecture and Monumental Art" Petersburg of northern Belozersk. The temple in Belozersk was consecrated in 1810, more than ten years after the death of the great architect. The project was probably compiled much earlier. The customer of the church was the Belozersky merchant Ivan Gorin, who had close ties with Moscow.

One of the best religious monuments of Belozersk XVIII-XIX centuries. Church of St. John the Forerunner built in 1810 in the style of mature classicism.
