Дмитрий Донской (11/05/2018)
Near the church of St. John the Baptist, to the south of it, on the very edge of the hill is the refectory church of Sergius of Radonezh with the chapel of Dionysius Glushitsky. It was built in 1560, shortly after the final isolation of the Small Monastery, according to legend, by Ivan the Terrible himself. The composition and its forms are quite typical for this kind of buildings of the 16th century. Both parts of the building - a large volume of the refectory and a higher and narrow cube of the temple with a lowered rectangular altar - are placed on the basement, which looks like a basement on the north side, because it completely "left" into the ground. To the square hall with a pillar in the center, located in the entire width of the body, from the west adjoins the Kelar Chamber. Unique only the upper part of the temple, formed as a result of the superstructure in the same 16th century tier of ringing. On each side (except the west), at the top was a wide open arch, where bells had hung before. Over the roof kokoshnikom towered traditional for Kirillov two chapters: a large - in the center and a small - above the aisle. The conversion of the refectory church into a belfry is quite rare and is obviously borrowed from similar structures of Ferapontov and Spaso-Kamenny Monasteries. At present, only some preserved fragments allow us to present the original original top of the temple, significantly changed in the XVIII-XIX centuries ..
