The first stone temple of Tambov and the oldest Orthodox cathedral of the Tambov region whose construction on the site of the ancient wooden Transfiguration Church of the Savior began in 1694 during the life of the heavenly patron of the city and the land of Tambov St. Pitirim. The cathedral acquired the final features that have reached our time in 1783. It was preserved solely due to the fact that a museum of local lore was functioning here in Soviet times. Located next to a magnificent belfry - replica. The historic building of the bell tower of the beginning of the XIX century was destroyed during the years of Soviet rebellion. The cathedral was returned to the church in 1993 and at that time presented itself as a pitiful sight. Now amazingly beautiful temple complex is a wonderful decoration of the city.
