Federal State Budgetary Institution of Culture "All-Russian Historical and Ethnographic Museum" (FGBUK VIEM). The idea of ​​creating a federal museum that would combine historical and ethnographic approaches in the study of the past belongs to Academician D.S. Likhachev. The location of the museum was chosen as the ancient city of Torzhok in the Tver region, winning the competition from reputable competing cities due to its location on the tourist routes Moscow - St. Petersburg and Moscow - Lake Seliger, as well as the presence of a unique historical and cultural landscape in it which constitute 275 monuments of architecture.
