... The Kalyazin Local History Museum, which has been open to visitors since 1920, is located in the building of the now defunct Epiphany Church. Erected in 1781, it was an imposing temple with five chapters and the main throne of the Epiphany. The side-altar of the Epiphany Church was consecrated in honor of St. Elijah, therefore the church was also called Ilyinsky. Subsequently, another chapel was built, consecrated in the name of John the Baptist, which was decorated with a magnificent four-tier iconostasis. Due to the fact that the local history museum was located in the church, its tragic fate passed, and the temple was saved from ruin. Numerous architectural, ceramic and sculptural fragments, as well as paintings of the flooded Kalyazinsko-Trinity Monastery are exhibited here. Objects of applied art of the 18th - 19th centuries are of great interest.
