Elpatievo estate The noble estate, the manor park and the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Yelpatyevo are located on the high bank of the Nerl (Volzhskaya) River and together form an outstanding monument of nature, Russian history and culture. Elpatevo estate, image No. 1 The estate of Count Naryshkin, Chamberlain of the Imperial Court in Yelpatyevo was huge, about 80,000 acres (800 sq. Km). The estate in Yelpatievo had a large manor park in the shape of a rectangle, a vivid example of landscape gardening art in a regular landscape style. The temple is one of the best examples of classicism architecture in the Pereslavl region. It was built in 1814 at the expense of P.P. Naryshkin and took 15 years to build. The estate of Count Naryshkin became famous for the fact that Alexander Dumas (father), the famous author of The Three Musketeers, spent 8 days here in September 1859 (three years before the abolition of serfdom). The fact is that 62-year-old Count Dmitry Pavlovich Naryshkin was married to 33-year-old Frenchwoman Jenny Falcon, "a graceful fairy" who was a friend of Alexandre Dumas. Alexander Dumas came to Yelpatevo to hunt at the invitation of Count Naryshkin during his trip to Russia with the French artist Jean-Pierre Moinet. When visiting Elpatiev, the French writer was amazed that such a well-organized estate is in a real wilderness. Around the estate there are impassable thickets full of wolves, and not a single decent road by European standards. Dumas writes: "There are two roads leading from the Lavra to Yelpatyevo, if it can be called roads at all. Our road was considered the best ... However, thanks to it I got acquainted with a curious thing, still completely unknown to me: the road was laid in a bog and consisted of pine trunks stacked in a row and fastened to each other ... " But the writer chose this path not only because it was slightly better than the other. He wanted to see Lake Pleshcheyevo with his own eyes. But Dumas failed to study the lake properly. Therefore, in his travel notes, he wrote: Do not expect any information from me about the lake, except for one thing: the herring of the same species as in the ocean is found in it. I promised Muante to taste them to be sure of this. Dumas and Naryshkin did not visit Pereslavl. But Muanet did not fail to turn there, going to Elpatievo by another road. Dumas took advantage of his information and drawings, including in his book information about the history of the city, which ends with an interesting observation by the writer: If you want to imagine the wealth and power of the Russian clergy, you need to go to Pereyaslavl. In a city with a population of no more than two thousand, there are twenty-five churches, one of which, the Church of the Transfiguration, is curious in its style. In addition to forests and impassable swamps on the road to Yelpatyevo, sandy soil was another misfortune. When, before entering the mountain, eight more strong horses were harnessed to the carriage, the writer at first considered this an extravagant trick of a Russian rich man who wanted to throw dust in the eyes of a foreign guest. But he soon became convinced that such an excess was dictated by necessity. But an additional eight horses with difficulty dragged the carriage along the sandy Yelpatievsky country roads, the wheels of the carriage went into the ground along the hub. In one especially dangerous place, Dumas even hurried to leave the carriage, fearing that he would be sucked into the sand. But, having come to his senses, the great romantic immediately admires the splendor of the surrounding landscape: Everything that we saw on the road already in the moonlight looked very beautiful: a bridge, a river, a rather steep mountain, where we were no longer stuck in the sand, but almost did not roll upside down: finally, the alleys of the old park, along which we drove for a quarter of an hour to the manor house. Faithful servants, a plentiful supper, hot water and soft bed were already waiting for the guests at the estate: "A hundred and fifty versts from Moscow, in a lost land, in a house that had been uninhabited for twenty years, we unexpectedly found not only everything that is required for comfort, but also real luxury."

Quite an interesting place. However, it is problematic to get here. on this road you can hardly drive by a simple car. Suspension eerily swaying. It is necessary to go, only if there is an SUV.
