The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Nikolo-Gastun, Belevsky District, Tula Region (100 km from Kaluga, 130 km from Tula). An amazing temple with a unique history. Nicholas-Gastunsky Church is considered the oldest in the Tula region. The history of the foundation of the temple dates back to at least the end of the 15th century, since already in 1506 the Grand Duke Vasily III placed an icon from the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the Gostuni Mountain near the Gostunka River in the stone church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which he brought to Moscow in 1503 his father Ivan Vasilievich. The miraculous icon of St. Nicholas, the Byzantine letter was found at the end of the XIV century in the village of Gostun (Gastun). The icon became famous as miraculous. The stone church in Nikolo-Gastuni was built at the direction of Ivan the Terrible in 1560. The most revered temple icon of the same St. Nicholas, to which the parishioners transferred their honors after the capture of their native shrine found here in Moscow, was granted to the church by Ivan the Terrible when he visited Belevsky district in 1564. The side wooden warm church in the name of Athanasius and Cyril of Alexandria, and Onufry the Great was built by the nun Marfa Ivanovna, and then rebuilt into a stone by the decree of her son, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich (or her grandson Alexei Mikhailovich). In 1861 the church was rebuilt and renovated. Distributed in length and arches raised above. It was consecrated in 1863. The building is stone, covered with iron. Around the church stretched a stone fence. In the 1930s, the temple was closed. Currently, work has begun on the restoration of the temple! Sources: A. Lepyokhin "Belev.
