A long time ago, during my youth, Sviyazhsk was one of the many Volga islands scattered at the confluence of the Sviyaga and Volga. There were numerous fishing houses on these islands, and every early morning, from May to September, a flotilla of fishing boats was distributed along the channels between the islands or went out to the Volga fairway. Sometimes, in order to rest or fix the gear, we pestered the island of Sviyazhsk, and while my father was busy with the engine or gear, I climbed up the slope to the monastery, climbed onto its wall along the buttress, sat and watched the life going on there. And life there was very curious: the monastery housed a psychiatric hospital or, simply put, an insane asylum. And the processes taking place there looked very unusual from the outside. Then the army, study, work, life far from these places ... The Cheboksary hydroelectric power station was built, the current in the Volga in this section almost stopped and fishermen left these islands en masse ... And I appeared here, on the island of Sviyazhsk. more than 50 years later. I have heard and read that something is happening there, that something is being restored. But the reality exceeded my wildest expectations. I have something to compare with: we traveled almost all over Europe and visited many historical places. The island town of Sviyazhsk in its current form is quite consistent with the good level of the European tourist center, and many tourists confirm this. Starting from a spacious parking lot under the walls of the monastery and ending with all kinds of entertaining shows like Lazy Torzhok ... Wonderful landscaping, thoughtful hiking trails, ongoing construction and restoration work - the prospects for this place are wonderful. By the way, if you are not going to visit museums and buy any excursions, you can enter the territory and walk around the island for free.
