A district (city) court in the Russian Federation is a federal judicial authority that is part of the system of courts of general jurisdiction and occupies the position of the second link of this system (above magistrates' courts, but below courts of the level of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation). Formed in districts, districts in cities (for large cities) and cities (with the exception of federal cities, the courts of which are courts of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and not district (city) courts throughout Russia. - The District Court is the court of first instance for most civil, criminal and administrative cases. The decisions (sentences) of the district court, which have not entered into force, issued by it in the first instance, may be appealed on appeal (which entered into cassation) in the court of general jurisdiction at the level of the subject of the Russian Federation. - The District Court is a court of appeal against justices of the peace.
