The Pyaterochka network was founded by Andrey Rogachev, one of the co-owners of the LEK company, in early 1999. Rather, then only the first store was opened in St. Petersburg, but within a year the formation of the network was not long in coming: by January 2000, there were already 17 Pyaterochka stores in the Northern capital. During the same year 2000, the network continued to develop actively and tripled its annual turnover, which totaled about 110 million dollars. With such a pace of development, the entry into the market of the real capital itself was not far off, and in mid-2001 the first retail facility "Pyaterochka" really appeared on the Moscow market. Pyaterochka's advancement proceeded at such a pace that by the end of 2002 the chain became one of the leaders throughout the country, increased its annual turnover to $ 430 million and already had one and a half hundred discounter stores. In the future, the retail chain continued to actively conquer the Russian market: in 2003 the annual turnover amounted to almost a billion dollars with 260 stores. In 2004, $ 1.6 billion passed through a network of 440 stores, while the company entered the international economic space, starting operations in Kazakhstan and Ukraine. 2005 was the culmination of the independent and solo voyage of the Pyaterochka trading network through the turbulent waves of the post-Soviet market: the trade turnover for the year exceeded 2 billion dollars, the number of buyers exceeded 200 million people, and the shares of the trading network were successfully placed on one of the most prestigious exchange platforms the world, the London Stock Exchange.
