This rate is not for the church, which is great, but for Administration of Smolensk, which allowed such structure in the center of the city to slowly become a ruin. Such a shame.

Historical place

Since 2013, the church has been covered with a green blanket under the guise of "repair type", but unfortunately, all these years, nothing has been done and the building, like other numerous architectural monuments of our city, continues to collapse. And it could become a good tourist attraction, given that Smolensk has a huge history and the preserved church is one of the pages of its history. How to explain to children that we are essentially crossing out our past, consigning architectural monuments to oblivion !?

The church of amazing beauty was created in the neo-Gothic style in 1898 according to the design of M.F. Meishner. At the beginning of the 20th century, the parish numbered 9,000 believers. The temple adjoined more than 8 hectares of land with many buildings. In the 1920s, the church was looted, by the end of the 1930s, the Smolensk Catholic community was almost completely destroyed, and the building has since been run by the NKVD. In 2013, the State Archive funds were moved to a new building, and the former temple is still empty and is gradually being destroyed.
