Novodevichy (New Maiden's) Convent. It was founded in 1524 by Grand Duke of Moscow Vasily III (1479-1533) in typically Italian style. Convent was built according to vow of Grand Duke Vasily III he gave in 1514 when he succeeded to liberate Smolensk. Convent was closed by communists in 1922. Museum instead of the convent was organized. First nuns returned to the convent in 1994. Convent was proclaimed monument of the world heritage by UNESCO in 2004. Convent was returned to Russian Orthodox Church in 2010.I
