Voskresensko-Il'inskaya Tserkov'

A small but pretty church hid from human eyes behind a terrible gray building facing Lenin Street.

The wooden church, located on the site of the modern Voskresensko-Ilyinsky church, was a parish for the family of Isidor and Agafiya Moshnin, parents of Prokhor Moshnin (future Seraphim of Sarov). It was in him that the illustrious ascetic received Holy Baptism. In 1768, the current building was built on the site of a wooden church, and the church became known as the Church of Elijah the Prophet. In 1788, changing its name to the Resurrection Cathedral, it was the main temple in the city until 1833. Under Soviet rule, the temple was closed and the building was given to the State Archive of the Kursk Region, in 1985 - to the archive of the Agro-Industrial Committee. In the early 1950s, the bell tower and portico were dismantled during the construction of the Book House. In 1995, the cathedral was again opened for worship under the name of the Resurrection-Elias Church.

I really like this Temple. And I always go to this church with pleasure. I feel so calm, it is impossible to convey. I live far from the temple, but I go to this Holy place with pleasure.

Wonderful temple! One of the oldest. The paintings on the walls to Vasnetsov’s drawings are fabulously beautiful. The services are solemn, the choir sings very beautifully! But it is very comfortable and you feel at home. Needs the continuation of the restoration and replenishment of the parish. Come!
