Near the village of Zhokino, there is the Zhokino settlement (it was this that gave the name to the village) - the remains of an ancient fortress of the 11-12 centuries that protected Ryazan. But in this place filled with history, we were more interested in the Church of St. John the Theologian, which was built from 1856 to 1870 at the expense of Prince Obolensky in eclecticism. The church has as many as three aisles, and the capacity is 2000 people. In 1922, everything of value from the church was taken out to the bonus of the fund of the starving Volga region, and in 1940 an order came to close and destroy the church. However, the latter was never implemented, and in post-war times the temple was used as a grain warehouse for the Krasnoe Znamya collective farm, which ceased to exist in 1998. In 2001, the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church and is currently being restored. I love this place because it is my childhood. It brings me peace of mind. I remember when the painting could still be seen on the ceiling of the temple. She was in blue tones and on sunny days she shone with such a light, warmth that the soul seemed to rise up. The soul sang, and there was a feeling of happiness. It was when the Temple was closed and used as a granary. Later it was opened again, they tried to restore it, but it lost its magnificence. And now, when you enter it, the part that is slightly repaired, the soul does not sing. And he presses some difficult past, present, and possibly the future. It could not be restored completely. This unique church, which can be seen for many kilometers before the entrance to it, which has its own bell tower, which you look from the bottom upwards, standing in front of the door, and it seems that it falls on you. It is difficult to describe this place. Probably only people whose roots are from here, and the history of several generations of the family, like mine, can relate to him.
