A milestone in the environmental life of Prikamye in the 80s of the last century was the struggle for the creation of the Basegi nature reserve. The issue of organizing a reserve on a territory subordinate to Gremyachinsk and the Gornozavodsky district has a long history. Its creation was preceded by many years of field research. The study of the flora and vegetation of the Basegi ridge in 1934-1944 was carried out by Igoshina K.N. Also, participants in the complex expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences, including famous ornithologists Vorontsov E.M. and Uvarova V.Ya. For the first time, the question of creating a reserve was raised in 1947 at a meeting of the scientific council of the Natural Science Institute (ENI) at Perm State University. Famous scientists Krasovsky P.N. and Ponomarev A.N. They suggested organizing a reserve in Basegi, taking into account the uniqueness of the floristic composition, the richness of the landscape and special forest conditions. In 1959 the oldest forester in the Urals Kerzhentsev N.I. once again raised the question of organizing a reserve with the aim of preserving typical sections of mountain forests. This idea found support from local authorities, and the Alexander City Executive Committee decided to create a state reserve. The total area was determined at 106 thousand ha. However, most of the forests that were planned to be set aside for the reserve were transferred to the timber-processing enterprises of the USSR Ministry of Industry, and their industrial felling began. In 1975, the Presidium of the Gornozavodsk Regional Society for the Conservation of Nature (Chairman of the Society N. Borovikov) adopted a resolution “On the Organization of a Mountain Forest Reserve in the Middle Urals”. In 1977, employees of the Perm Forest Experimental Station O.I. Voronova, O.E. Shergold, G.N. Kanisev prepared proposals for a feasibility study for the project to create the Basegi nature reserve.
