Savior church on Nereditsa hill

The Church of the Savior on Nereditsa is located 1.5 km from Veliky Novgorod on a small elevated and next to the Rurik settlement, which must also be visited. Erection even under Prince Yaroslavl Vladimirovich. The frescoes were painted in 1199. But in October 1941, more than half of the temple was destroyed, and the painting of the temple also perished. The restoration was carried out in 1947-1957. During the restoration, a tomb with the remains of the Moscow prince Athanasius Danilovich, the stream of the Rurikovichs, brother of Ivan Yelita, buried in the temple in 1322, was discovered. The restoration to its current state was completed in 2004.

A very beautiful masterpiece of ancient Russian architecture with very interesting and unusual frescoes. It was built as a church for the princely family. Unfortunately, if you don't have a car, it's difficult to get there. Although it is about ten kilometers away, the bus to the village of Spas Nereditsy runs three times a day, and it is expensive to take a taxi. But it is worth seeing this temple in spite of any difficulties.

Connoisseurs of Old Russian architecture should definitely visit. We have not so many monuments of the 12th century left. A very beautiful church, a pleasant place. Some of the frescoes have survived, quite peculiar.
