The main building of the Iversky Monastery - the Assumption Cathedral - an example of the original Russian church architecture, one of the largest buildings of Russia in the XVII century. Created in 1656 by Averkiy Mokeev and Ivan Belozer. Over three and a half centuries of the complex and sometimes tragic history of the monastery, it has been determined that only the forged door grills and oak carved doors survive from the original decoration of the cathedral. For almost two decades, the cathedral was restored after its return to the church, and now finally you can see this recreated splendor.

In 1656, the first brick building was erected on the most beautiful and highest place of Valdai Island - the Cathedral of Our Lady of Iver, later called the Assumption. The cathedral is the main building of the Iversky monastery. It is distinguished by its large size and monumentality. This is one of the largest buildings of the XVII century in Russia. It was conceived by Patriarch Nikon as an architectural model. Choosing a place to build a stone cathedral church, Patriarch Nikon consecrated it with prayer. On May 14, 1655, construction began. Averky Mokeev, sent from the Kalyazinsky Holy Trinity Monastery, supervised the construction of the "apprentice of stone affairs". The assistant was the carpenter foreman Ivan Belozer, and the bailiff during the construction was the boyar son Artemy Tokmachev. A year later, construction was completed.

Insanely beautiful cathedral! Inside, all the icons are new, 2010, but very beautiful and soulful.
