In general, Old Rakomo is one of the oldest settlements and a settlement on this place was already in the 9-10 centuries. This is a rare village (not cities) of Russia, which is mentioned in the annals. At the same time, the village is mentioned in the annals for 1015 in connection with the reign of Yaroslav the Wise in Novgorod. In 1820 the village of Rakomo was acquired by the landowner Vasily Ivanovich Semevsky (1748-1829). In 1824 Semevsky V.I. built in Racomo the Church of the Sign of the Mother of God with a bell tower. The church had two chapels. The north side-altar was in the name of Fyodor Stratilat, the south side-altar - in the name of Constantine and Elena. The Church of the Sign of the Mother of God is not an ancient temple and was built in the style of classicism. The southern and northern facades are separated by pilasters (four on each). The temple has four pillars, one apse, one dome with a massive octahedral drum and dome. The bell tower is square at the base, three-tiered, four-span, topped with a tetrahedral hipped dome. Znamenskaya Church was closed during the Soviet era in the 1930s. During the war, the church was probably damaged, but minor. This can be seen in old photographs, so the statement that the church was destroyed during the war is completely untrue. After the war, the building of the church was in quite suitable condition for use, but it was abandoned. Now the church has no roof and dome at all. The vaults have collapsed quite a long time ago (they are not even on the ground), except for the dome vault. Only three quarters of the area of the dome vault remains (six sectors of the octahedron are preserved, and two sectors of the octahedron are missing). The arches resting on four columns (pillars) are preserved, which are generally not known how they are supported and on which, in turn, the drum and the partially collapsed dome vault rests. In addition to the supporting arches, the arch above the apse has also been preserved. Well, the walls are well preserved. Inside the Znamenskaya church for a rural parish was quite large in area. It has three naves well defined. The inside of the church was painted light blue or blue. In some places, the plaster has been preserved and there are still paintings mainly on the arches and in the apse. From the west to the Church of the Sign adjoins a bell tower, erected above the entrance to the church. The bell tower is also in a dilapidated state. It seems to have collapsed in 1980. Apparently, then its dome collapsed, since all three tiers have survived to our time. The Church of the Sign is clearly visible from the road leading from Novgorod to the village of Ilmen. Perhaps that's why she attracts people. Quite a lot of people walk through its ruins. We were there for about twenty minutes and during this time four or five groups of tourists came or came there, let's say, several tourists. Someone was in the car. We arrived on bicycles and there was also a man and a woman on bicycles who also came from Novgorod (with a large camera). The ruins, of course, are in disrepair and something can easily fall on the head from above. Brick is at its best. Bricks, judging by the debris scattered on the ground, fall there regularly. I think that it’s not far before the arches and the drum with the domed vault fall, although some iron brackets stick out from these structures. Apparently they are holding something together. So not everyone dares to go inside the walls of the church itself. However, no one is going to repair the church. There is still an interesting moment. There is an old photograph showing a high portico in front of the church with a large triangular pediment and four columns. Now she has neither a pediment, nor columns, and in general, no traces of the portico are visually visible. Probably, the portico was nevertheless, but was either dismantled or destroyed during the war or immediately after it. At the present time, it seems that the church is red after the color of the brickwork. However, while the church was in operation, its masonry was never exposed. It was plastered and painted in a light color. This can be seen in old photographs. After the war, almost all the plaster fell off and the brickwork was exposed. Only here and there are white spots on a red background.

Stunning ruins, elegant architecture of the building. You can go inside, but at your own peril and risk, the church keeps on an honest word. But Lord, how cool is there!

Brick church in the style of classicism, built in 1824 at the expense of the landowner V.I.Semevsky. A four-pillar temple topped with an octahedral dome with a bell tower. It was closed in the 30s of the last century, during the war it was damaged by shelling. Abandoned, in disrepair.
